my father had surgery yesterday to remove cancer from his colon. he had a several inches of colon removed. he will be in the hospital until friday.
he will be on a liquid diet for a bit. then soft foods - but no fiber.
i will be with him this week as he heals. am looking into complementary and herbal medicines to assist with his healing after he gets out of the hospital.
aloe vera gel is supposed to be amazing for healing the digestive tract. but does it contain any fiber?
also - ideas on herbal tinctures (alcohol tinctures or glycerine tinctures better?) for boosting his healing and immune system?
also, living in the bay area, we have access to many herbs for making teas. recommended herbs for tea?
i have faith in these medicines, but need help narrowing down what might be best for him with this particular condition.
thank you for any assistance or knowledge available.

I am a cancer survivor, certified nutritionist and going to school to be a master herbalist.
#1 Aloe vera is fantastic and contains no fiber - an absolute must! Good thinking. Aloe vera will also help your dad absorb nutrients from food and any other supplements.
#2 probiotics. You need to boost up the immune system as much as possible and probiotics are a great way to start. I like BioK liquid from your health food store.
#3 Astragalus tincture to boost immune system. An alcohol tincture will get a deeper extraction of the herb and absorb better. If you want to burn off some of the alcohol mix the herb with about an ounce of really hot water.
#4 A products from New Chapter called zyflammend can help promote a health response to inflammation and can be very helpful after surgery.
#5 a broad systemic enzyme is also extremely important, the best one I know of is called wobenzymes.
I would be happy to talk to you more about your questions.
